One of my favorite images for 2022, I had a good feeling this image was destined to be a monochrome. It did not disappoint.
It did take a bit of a "photo-dance", moving around until all the images lined up as I had envisioned it, but eventually, it all fell into place. I could not have asked for a more perfect cloud either!Genesis
As the sun was setting, the final rays of the day caressed the outlines of the dunes, making for a magic moment in time.

Some of my work speaks to me on a deep level. Such is the case with this image. After spending an unforgettable month in Iceland, luck made it possible for me to experience a flight over the famous "braided rivers" in the very last day it was possible to fly before I embarked on my homeward journey.
It was one of those unforgettable experiences, one I will not soon forget.
This image is one of my very first attempts at aerial photography.Mountain reflections
On a recent trip To Iceland, we stumbled upon this incredible scene. While most in the group were photographing the bigger picture, I zeroed in on this wonderful scene. This colourful outlet, gently reaching into the lake, surrounded by these incredible reflections of the mountains above. Nature at it's most impressive!
Volcanic Twins
The slope of a Cinder Cone Volcano made for a dramatic backdrop for these stunningly illuminated trees.

A magical day, with incredible weather conditions moving over and though the Grand Canyon over the span of the entire day.
It never went above freezing that day, and although ill equipped for the temperature, I spent over twelve hours photographing and enjoying this magical spectacle put on by mother nature.LIGHT IN THE CANYON

Sometimes, it all comes together: the right time and light of day creates the most beautiful shapes and patterns in the dunes, a gentle wind kicks up just enough sand to bring the finishing touch to an already dramatic scene .Into the mist
Embarking on a morning canoe ride in the magical cypress swamps of Caddo Lake, we had passed this cypress "tunnel", and on a whim decided to back paddle to it. As we started to row down this waterway, this magnificent scene unfolded in front of us, the lazily rising fog being illuminated by the morning sun, the hanging moss perfectly backlit, and this majestic great blue heron claiming ownership of his territory. As beautiful as this experience was, it was sobering to learn that this otherworldly echo system faces many threats to it's existence, from chemical pollution, including herbicides used in the battle against invasive water plants such as Giant Salvinia, that threaten the natural equilibrium of the lake, to chemical runoffs, poultry and wastewater treatment plants that add dangerous levels of harmful bacteria, and of course the threats brought on by climate change. Even though tourism to a certain degree contributes to some of these negative factors, it also aids in raising awareness to the challenges faced by this natural treasure.
A Child of the World
The more I worked on this image, the deeper it went, the more emotions it evoked. Maybe because I remember that moment so well: this young boy running out of the woods onto the dirt road we were traveling on.
Maybe it is the many stories being told by his face, his handmade helmet, his clothing. Maybe it is the fear, the hope, the curiosity, the shear innocence that is being run over by the harsh realities of daily life.
It is moments like this that make me so very grateful for the life I have been so lucky to live. And it is moments like this that remind me I, we all, can do better. We all can do so much more to change this world to be a better place...... UgandaEmbrace
