Sometimes, it all comes together: the right time and light of day creates the most beautiful shapes and patterns in the dunes, a gentle wind kicks up just enough sand to bring the finishing touch to an already dramatic scene .

There is no question that humans throughout their history have found inspiration for arts and design in nature. These exquisite patterns that unfolded in front of me on a late afternoon in Death Valley, were really brought to the forefront by the low light from the setting sun, emphasizing these designs by the resulting highlights and shadows. It almost felt like a RunWay fashion show.

As the sun was setting, the final rays of the day caressed the outlines of the dunes, making for a magic moment in time.
