Sentinels

Shortlisted image, Top Ten, Cityscapes, Inaugural Landscape Photography World Awards. One of my favorite images for 2022, I had a good feeling this image was destined to be a monochrome. It did not disappoint. It did take a bit of a "photo-dance", moving around until all the images lined up as I had envisioned it, but eventually, it all fell into place. I could not have asked for a more perfect cloud either!

Beacon of Light

Silver award, 2022, 360° PhotoAwards Some of my work speaks to me on a deep level. Such is the case with this image. After spending an unforgettable month in Iceland, luck made it possible for me to experience a flight over the famous "braided rivers" in the very last day it was possible to fly before I embarked on my homeward journey. It was one of those unforgettable experiences, one I will not soon forget. This image is one of my very first attempts at aerial photography.

One of my all-time favorites, this image has made it's presence felt, both in competitions, as well as among fellow photographers. Among it's recognitions: CUPOTY (Close-up Photographer of the Year) 2022 among the Top 100 Finalist out of 9,000 images, Top Ten, Fungi category. Arizona Highways Magazine 2022 contest, among the final 30 images and Honorable Mention.

Sometimes, it all comes together: the right time and light of day creates the most beautiful shapes and patterns in the dunes, a gentle wind kicks up just enough sand to bring the finishing touch to an already dramatic scene .

Desert Dawning

Bronze Award, 2021 360° PhotoAwards, Landscape category. Another glorious morning in the desert. As the sun was rising, the clouds to the east parted just enough to let this magical light shine through, perfectly illuminating White Pocket.

The Ship and the Seagull

Bronze Award, 2021 EPSON International Pano Awards. While on an evening stroll, these fantastic light beams broke through the dense cloud cover, illuminating the ship on the horizon. If you look carefully to the right of the frame, you will see the silhouette of a seagull, perfectly illuminated by the sun reflecting off of the ocean.

Embrace

Silver Award; Second runner up in "Wildlife", 2021 360° PhotoAwards. One of those moments forever engraved in my memory, this exhausted mother is protectively embracing her four day old baby, yet felt comfortable enough in our presence to let us see her newborn. Mountain Gorillas in their natural habitat, Rwanda.

Silver Award, Creative Category, 2021 360PhotoAwards. On a particularly bright day, the intense blue sky made for some intriguing reflections while visiting the Salt River Wild Horses, the beautiful river rocks perfectly visible in parts of the reflections.

A Cuban's Cuban

Bronze Award, People, 2021 360PhotoAwards. Enjoying a break with his cigar, I was taken aback by the sheer strength in this mans eyes, the wrinkles in his face witness to a long, and probably hard, life. The immaculately clean shirt, the newspaper carefully folded, protecting his pants, all underscoring his proud presence. A moment I will not soon forget. Trinidad, Cuba
